What is Bridge of Peace?
Bridge of Peace (“BoP”) is a Camden city Lutheran Community Church led by Pastor Giselle Coutinho. For the last nine or ten years, volunteers from St Paul’s have provided an evening meal to the young parishioners once a month during the school year. This has taken place on the second Tuesday of each month from October through to June in the early evening from 6 to 7 PM. The church is located at 2755 Tuckahoe Road in the Fairview section of Camden.
This meal is in conjunction with Bridge of Peace evening youth program of religious studies, discussions, counselling, and other activities directed by Pastor Giselle and her church volunteers.
To continue assisting our brother/sister congregation we are looking for volunteers of the congregation of St Paul’s both young and old or those who would just like to assist to prayerfully consider joining us in this project.
What do we do at BoP? We provide a main dish, usually hot, such as chili, pasta with meat, stew, etc.; a salad, sometimes another vegetable, bread & “butter”, and drinks – chocolate milk & lemonade. The usual turn-out at this event is about 20 youth from ages 16 downward, with about five adults fromBridge of Peace parish. The kids and staff of Bridge of Peace set up the tables & chairs, Bridge of Peace provides plastic dinnerware. We arrive between 5:30 and 6:00 PM to set out and serve the main dish, sides, salad & dressing, and drinks. We then do light clean-up and depart, usually by 6:45 - 7:00 PM.
Please consider joining us in this ministry. Many hands lighten the work, we only need about six or seven to provide regular support to our sister congregation. Not everyone has to travel into Camden. The “travelling team” can pick up the hot entrée or other food items from your house or at St Paul’s and take it to Bridge of Peace
